The 2016 Summer Paralympics, which showcased some of the best examples of human endeavour, resilience and determination, ended on the 18th of September. It was held at the same venue as the Summer Olympics-Rio de Janeiro. Over 4,000 athletes from 159 nations participated in the tournament which was graced by joy, disappointment, tragedy and glory in equal measure.
A tale of valour
Each of the participating athletes had to overcome immense physical and psychological challenges. Belgian Marieke Vervoort,for instance, was left paralyzed from the waist down in 2000 by a progressive muscle disease. Unable to eat or sleep normally, she was even granted permission for assisted euthanasia in 2008. Nevertheless, she overcame immense trauma at Rio to win the silver medal at the T52 400m cycling race. For More Please Visit :
